Oscar Nominations Thoughts

Here are some of my immature and lame thoughts on the Academy Awards nominations:

  • American Sniper gets so many nominations + Bradley Cooper 3 years in a row?
  • Where’s Gone Girl for screenplay and picture? 😦 At least Rosamund Pike got in.
  • Was hanging on that Interstellar squeaks in for Best Picture but I guess not. Now 2 of my favourite directors, Christopher Nolan and David Fincher, missed out on Picture and Director.
  • At least Wes Anderson got it! The Grand Budapest Hotel ties for most nominations and I’m smiling inside now.
  • Carell got into Best Actor, now I’m really excited about Foxcatcher.
  • Marion Cotillard in, Jennifer Aniston out, heartbreaking.
  • Robert Duvall supporting actor for The Judge? He looks kinda lame as far as I’ve seen in trailers.
  • Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress are already game overs before the nominations were announced.
  • Meryl Streep year after year. I really liked her and was happy when she got nominated last year, but as much as I’ve seen her performance in Into The Woods, it was normal.
  • Keira Knightley looked normal in The Imitation Game too. Instead, Jessica Chastain really looks good in The Most Violent Year, the movie looks really good too.
  • All white nominees in all of the acting nominations (looking at you, Selma). The Academy really missed out on nominating the first African American female director here. Maybe they thought their job was done after 12 Years A Slave last year. (Am I the only one who did not like this movie? It was the most boring out of the nominees last year) Maybe i have to watch Selma to decide.
  • So many nominations for Foxcatcher yet no Best Picture, yet so few nods for Selma and a Best Picture, hmmm…
  • Nightcrawler only gets a screenplay nod and no Jake Gyllenhaal in Actor? Didn’t absolutely LOVE the movie but he deserves to get in.
  • Called it, Inherent Vice for screenplay. The Academy always likes one of these weirder films in screenplay, like Moonrise Kingdom, Her and Django Unchained.
  • NO LEGO MOVIE FOR ANIMATED FILM!!! Not my favourite movie, but certainly better than freaking Big Hero 6 and How To Train Your Dragon 2 imo.
  • Alexandre Desplat should have won for Argo in the Best Score category 2 years ago but he is nominated twice this year. Fine with The Imitation Game but his score for The Grand Budapest Hotel makes the film what it is
  • Add in my 2 favourite scores of the year (The Theory of Everything and Interstellar) into the category, but come on, give Gone Girl at least this nod. The score is brilliant, and voters, just because you gave them the award for The Social Network doesn’t mean you can’t nominate them again this year.
  • No editing for Birdman? Isn’t that film largely about the editing?
  • And no Interstellar for cinematography, guess that they were just blown away by Gravity last year.
  • On the other hand, Interstellar gets in for Sound Mixing and Editing, but that show is so loud!
  • If Boyhood wins everything it was nominated for, I’ll be the happiest boy around 🙂
  • These are one of the weirdest nominations and that’s including the snub for Ben Affleck in Director 2 years ago. At least they were not as boring or bad as the 2012 one when The Artist won everything including Actor (What?!)
  • Time to throw my money away watching these movies cause Singapore loves to squeeze them together during this time of the year.

Let's discuss!
